PROJECT HISTORY

September 1994 - Somers to Whitefish EIS
The US 93 Somers to Whitefish West Final Environmental Impact Statement (FEIS) was completed in September 1994 with extensive public involvement and covered an approximately 50-mile long corridor of US 93 from Somers to Whitefish. The FEIS recommended a number of highway improvements to US 93, including an 8-mile long bypass around the west side of the City of Kalispell. The purpose of the bypass was to remove traffic from the congested areas of Kalispell by providing a direct north-south route for truck traffic and others for whom Kalispell was not a destination. In November 1994, the findings from the FEIS were documented in a Record of Decision (ROD) with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) that identified the preferred bypass route along the western side of Kalispell.
